Your Yamaha remote has separate buttons for Power On and Standby (off). This is a good feature for setting macros on learning remotes, but a bad feature for people who use universal remotes, since the universal remotes never provide for a dual function power.

Sometimes a universal remote will turn on the power, but will not turn it off because that is a separate button. It appears that yours is one of the universal remotes that does neither, and if you don't have a learning capability, there is not much you can do except use the original remote for the power functions.

Some receivers will turn on with the press of any button, so if yours does that you could at least turn it on, but not off.
