I too have a BMC9012 DVR with Moxi Remote Control. The remote control does seem useless as a universal remote. (I haven't even been able to figure out how to program it to turn my TV on and off so you're ahead of me.) But I have been relatively successful in programming my Phillips Pronto TSU3000 Universal Remote Control to handle the Moxi Menus.

The one drawback to the Pronto is that it is a little slow responding to a button press. Usually it's not much of a problem but the BMC9012 expects to receive multiple digits of a channel number quickly. What this means is that I can change channels using the Moxi Menu or by using "channel-up" and "channel-down", but if I try to switch to channel 782 by typing 7-8-2, the BMC9012 switches to channel 7, then to 8, then finally to 2.
