Thank you Robert,
Before reading your reply I became carried away
by a "remote control spirit" after reading at
this interesting site.
I ordered a new rcu811 on ebay ($21 total)
after reading reviews about the rcu810.

One review led me to "[Link: hifi-remote.com]"
and I was hooked.
I then ordered a URC-8910 and JP1 cable from
you.
Did I assume to much by thinking that the 811
like the 810?

I'm afraid so. The RCU810 and RCU811 are completely different remotes in every way possible (despite the similar model numbers). The RCU810 is made by UEI, the same company that makes OFA and most RS remotes, plus it's JP1-able. The RCU811 is made by RCA themselves (AFAIK) and is not JP1-able.

Maybe you should have just bought an RCU810 from me if that's what you were really after! :)
Rob.
