Yeah, that's why they changed the design. With the 2000 it was possible to cross the contacts when placing it on the charger, making it quite dangerous.
On the 6000, it's interesting (dumb?) that the charger is smart enough to detect a high temperature (the lights start flashing) but NOT smart enough to quit chargeing if this condition occurs.
