I Just fixed the backlight in my nephew's TS1000, with the help of many posts going back a long way. Thought I would consolidate the relevant information into one posting. The problem is a 220uH inductor that shatters when you drop the unit. It is visible by removing the battery and looking into the square hole near the + symbol. The part number at DIGI-KEY is TKS1241CT-ND. The manufacturer's part number is 300HS-221J=P2. Replace this and enlarge the hole so it won't happen again.
