The only problem with "mute amp" is that on many the mute control is indipendant of the volume control. ie. while in MUTE you can still adjust the volume knob; it doesn't actually move volume to 0 when you mute it just cuts the audio off.

There really would be no way to set it to a certain volume level. Why not just leave it where you want it? :-)
