Are these 2x4 (or whatever size) extending from floor to ceiling? If not, it's not actually structural. Why do they need to be full-width and why can't you have someone frame an opening that it fits? Or, ask the contractor if you can re-frame/modify it?

If you have an oscillating tool, you could remove 1/2"-3/4" from the face of one piece and if necessary, have it checked. It's not hard to do. Otherwise, have one piece moved to the side- the drywallers know how to deal with this and they shouldn't put a joint over an opening, anyway.
