I hate doing media boxes behind TVs. Ultimately something needs to be rebooted and you're stuck having to pull the TV down, or having the added expense and space for a controllable surge. I'd much rather put a conduit in to a base cabinet or closet where the equipment can be easily serviced.
I agree 100%. I still try to do a box behind the TV whenever possible but I only use it for power and wiring. I'd rather have the actual equipment in a nearby mech room or closet whenever possible.
I ran into a large fireplace a few months ago that had seven runs of heat dispersion right behind the TV location so sometimes there just isn't room for a recessed box anyway.
