History: We repair and refurbish URC remotes as well as programming and selling them.

I have had a few customers send us remotes lately that have bad buttons, the 980 seems really prone to this issue. At first we thought that it may be an electronic issue, but it turned out to be that the carbon film on the buttons wears out. Sad really.

This does NOT happen with the later (Post 40000 serials) 880 as it has a membrane over the buttons that helps against corrosion and wear. Such a great design that made this remote almost bulletproof. It is our favorite URC remote if you cannot tell :).

Anyway we found a company (P1Repair) that sells Carbon "Dots" that can be placed over the circuit board etching that emulates the button itself. We use 4mm Dots. The offending button(s) then become simply mechanical as they are on the membraned 880s. I hope this post helps other repair shops.
