Sony entry level TVs are horrible. You should never use those except for Sony fans. You have to go to Sony's higher models before they become competitive and stand out.
This is a perfect example. The Samsung is about the same price or cheaper and it beats that model Sony in every way. And you know I don't like Samsung :)

That TCL mentioned is for extreme budget jobs. It is a good value for the money (less than 1/2 the price of the Sony or Samsung) but overall its performance sucks - it just beats everything at its price point. Also please note: HDR means nothing on the S4 series. It just means it can process an HDR signal, it has NO additional light output to actually show HDR. In fact, it is much dimmer than the Samsung - average of 200nits vs. 400nits in HDR.

43" TV
Also as mentioned, you should look at the LG 43". They have models at the same price point as the Sony & Samsung mentioned. And I believe it to be very competitive to the Samsung.
