That sounds like the AppleTV has dropped the EDID stream, that can happen when it goes to sleep. When you reboot the ABO it forces the ATV to reset. We have seen same with many brands of extenders connected to the Apple TV.

Best (cheap) solution is put a timer outlet on the power supply of the ABO and turn it off every night between 3 and 4 AM.

Maybe but I always set my ATV's to "never" sleep (of course, that doesn't mean they don't).  The audio dropouts I was experiencing were all in the first day of install and happened a few times of testing withing 10-15 minutes.  However, audio has been working now for over a week.

All the equipment is already on controlled outlets (the ATV reboots weekly of course) so if the issues pop up again, I can add nightly reboots to test without a site visit.

Could the 4 input device you linked earlier have the same issues with ATV?
