The MX-5000 uses a Microsoft OS. It isn't very robust hardware wise. Because of this it is susceptible to network issues. You need to be absolutely positive your DHCP server is working properly and so is your wireless. The MX-5000 has a reputation with some installers but I'm convinced the issues they've seen are, for the most part, are because of improper network setup. Use good hardware and set it up properly and the MX-5000 is pretty reliable. That said, DHCP isn't really involved when you're pushing a program to the remote via a USB cable. Maybe something isn't set up properly on the remote?
As for getting IP commands you can look here on this forum and sometimes you can get the specs from the manufacturer. They may be easily found in the support section or you may have to open a support case with them. If you try this with Sony be prepared for a great deal of frustration. Google is your friend.
