First, try to search and select for a .png file which usually have transparent backgrounds. If you do come across a .JPG, first you will have to save it is a .png. Then you will need to use editing software of your choice (Photoshop, Paintshop, etc.) to extract the background.
There are web tutorials everywhere. However, your best bet is to find what you are looking for with a transparent background already.
