Ive got a Pioneer DV-575 and it reads anything. I've got a disc that Denon, Sony, Samsung won't read, they just grind (because the disc is old and a bit knocked about). Yet the Pioneer reads quite happily with no problems.

Discretes? Well just send a play to turn it on and power toggle to turn it off. There may be discretes for it but I haven't bothered trying.
