yiannis75, have you tried to install a Global Cache IP2IR on the LAN in UK, and port forward to the WAN?

It would be interesting to see how much faster this is.

There are many ways to control this from the LAN side in the US; including some test utilities that would run on your laptop.

Once you get it working here, you could migrate this to a tablet or other control system.

Also, can you give more pointers on how you are getting the video into IP format?
