Ernie,
I have no idea what COM actually stands for, when I was exploring the Administrative tools I saw the above mentioned items switched them to auto and
everything worked fine. That was the only changes I made from when my system
would not detect the remote at all. It is very spooky to me too, I am just happy it worked out okay.
