I've heard that Toshiba DVD players sometimes suffer from downconversion problems when viewing movies on a 4:3. That's why I would suggest a Sony over a Toshiba if your tv isn't 16:9 (Widescreen). If you are going to be getting a widescreen tv in the near future then the Toshiba 3109 for $300 is the way to go. Otherwise go with Sony, the lip sync problems are gone.
