You cannot do Denon 2-way robustly or reliably on 232, especially with the latest changes to serial.match() in the 7.2.22 firmware, as 'true' asynchronous eventing is not supported (You must poll RFX with serial.match() or serial.receive()).

Provided you have access to Philips modules, you can download the Philips code for 3806 if you like. It should get you started.

Been there, done that, bought and sold that T-shirt. You will want to use TCP/IP if at all possible except for maybe IR or 232 for one-way volume ramping.
