Well, after several deaelers in London disappointingly bumped me off saying it cannot be repaired, one dealer finally said that there is in fact a Marantz repair centre and kindly provided their details.
Googel for Sontec if you need to repair a Marantz remote
Sontec have now received my remote and provided a quotation of abt 100 GBP and I hope they do repair it.
All is not lost!
