update, I ditched the phillips IR receiver, the Veris one works for the most part. I have a few buttons on my remote which I cannot map though. So what I'm looking for is a program that can read and display the IR codes for the buttons I can't map currently. In XBMC I can create keyboard shortcuts based off the hex code. But I have no way to find out what's what. For anyone looking for a small'ish HTPC remote that has plenty of buttons the one I linked in my OP is pretty sweet. Small but not too small, feels solid in my hand and has just the right amount of buttons for my XBMC setup. Well once I get the few I can't currently map mapped any ways :)
