URC-2 Controller Xantech’s URC-2 is a handheld companion to their SmartPad3 keypad series. The URC-2 learning remote can control 8 sources, with 40 user-programmable buttons. All buttons are backlit with a special motion-sensitive trigger that activates at first movement and stays on for 1 to 10 seconds. When combined with the Dragon Drop-IR software, each button may hold an individual command or macro. Xantech claims easy one-handed operation with simple tactile feedback, allowing anyone to just pick up and control the home theater. Used in conjunction with SmartPad3 keypads, the keypad tracks the URC-2’s selection. Six overlays with different label assignments are included for the bottom 12 buttons. It has 32kb SRAM, up to 70 foot range and can control devices ranging in frequency from 31.25 to 71.5kHz. An RS323 serial port allows connection to a PC for editing purposes, or for remote cloning. The remote is a compact 7.8" x 2.4" x 1.1" and weighs a mere 6.6oz without batteries. The special $400 Dragon Drop package also allows for computer-aided configuration of SmartPads. Suggested retail price for the URC-2 without software is $200.
