Onkyo’s got something up their sleeve – Ethernet. Introduced at CEDIA, their Net-Tune components offer an easy way to get audio from one point to another over a wired or wireless LAN. Up to 12 “clients” can access a single media “server”, which has an 80 gigabyte hard drive that can hold nearly 1300 hours of MP3 music. The NAS-2.3 Net-Tune server also has a built-in CD drive and MP3 encoder for ripping CDs to disk, or files can simply be transferred to it from a PC over 10/100 Ethernet. The NAS-2.3 also includes two USB ports, an onboard modem, VGA, composite and S-Video outputs and a pair of digital inputs and outputs. The NAS-2.3 will retail for $2000.

To access files remotely from the NAS-2.3, users can purchase the $500 NAC-2.3, a compact client designed to be the centerpiece of a traditional mini system. It features a 15-watt per channel stereo amplifier and built-in AM/FM tuner. Optional external devices include a CD player, MiniDisc or cassette recorder.
