I suspect I should have never mentioned the 980/981 resets--those are the last things to try, because the 981 reset puts the remote into the as-built at the factory state and wipes out whatever programming Comcast has put in. The good news is that we can add in the missing functions if necessary.

Anyway, if I understand you correctly, the remote did control the cable box for an hour or so, and now it doesn't. It's more likely to be a problem with the cable box, rather than the remote. Try unplugging the box for a few minutes, and then retrying the remote. If you remember which setup code you originally used to get it to work, reassign that setup code. Otherwise, the two choices are 01376 and 01982.

Some of the Motorola boxes get into a state where it takes them a minute or so to respond to the commands from the remote. Unless you'r really patient, it seems like the remote isn't working

Sure, we can help. However, we need some additional information, because Comcast uses several IR protocols, depending on the manufacturer and model of the cable set top box.

Please find the model number of your cable box, and post it here.  Also, what setup code are you using?

OK, we'll assign the correct IR signal to the MyDVR button.

1) Press Cable
2) Press and hold Setup until 2 blinks
3) Enter 994 (should see another 2 blinks)
4) Tap Setup (don't hold it.)
5) Enter 43205
6) Tap MyDVR
The remote should blink twice to indicate that it recognized the procedure.

Now MyDVR should work.

I have a Motorola DCH3416 cable box with Comcast and the remote with the red OK/Select button. Last evening, after a remote drop, the remote stopped controlling the cable box however the TV/AUX controls all worked fine. I've managed to reprogram the remote to bring back basic cable functions, however the My DVR and OnDemand buttons do not work so I'm guessing the code I used may not have been the correct one. Any suggestions are most welcome...

Setup codes for many UEI remotes are available at www.urcsupport.com.    Comcast red button remote.   The setup code for the DCH3416 is 01376. Please give that a try, and post back if anything is missing.

Thank you. 01376 got me up an running with basic functions, however no access to My DVR or OnDemand. The My DVR button does nothing, and the OnDemand button brings up the Parental Lock Code screen.

That's a little odd, but let's try to assign the EFCs. Follow the procedure in post 51 of this thread, using 00175 in step 5 for MyDVD, and then do the same procedure again using 00208 for On Demand.

Thank you. The 00208 OnDemand programming worked, however no dice with the My DVR. I can also confirm DVR function is working as a scheduled recording changed the channel and the schreen read REC last evening...

Thanks for all your info on the thread. It fixed all my problems except one. Would you have any info on how to get an 'exit' button re-programmed. I have a new Comcast/Xfinity grey remote w/ red ok/select key and a Cisco rng200n dvr box.

Thanks in advance for any help you could give.

Assuming you're using 01982 for cable, try EFC 39877
