But did you follow the instructions in Post #150?  What exactly isn't working, and what do you mean by "all the blinks"?

Thanks everyone for this thread! I got a Cisco RNG 150 STB from Comcast. It came with a grey top remote that was pre-programmed for the box and works fine. I wanted a second remote and found one on ebay, cheap, that I thought was the same. When I got it, everything looked the same except it was silver instead of grey. It didn't work and the Cable button programming was locked.

Thanks to this thread, I was able to unlock and enter the proper code. Everything worked except the exit button. Again, this thread gave me the proper EFC code and procedure. What I had thought was going to be a six dollar paperweight is now a fully functioning remote. I couldn't have done it without this thread.

I have the dark gray remote with the red OK button.

I've encountered an interesting issue: I wanted to remap the cable key to control my computer as I am not using the cable box.

I need to use the code: 21972 which is technically a television code. I can set Aux and TV to 21972 but I noticed that the "cable" button only controls other similar cable boxes. This means that it only accepts codes that start with a "0".

Is there any way to unlock the cable button so I can use it with any device and not just other cable boxes?

The easy way is to get a $20 JP1 flash cable and use RemoteMaster to program your Comcast.

But you can also do this manually with 8 keystrokes per button.  Temporarily assign 21972 to AUX (Or TV if that is easier) and then follow the 994 instructions to copy one button to another button.  For example, to copy the MCE down arrow to the cable down arrow--Setup; 994 (2 blinks); AUX; Down; CBL; Down (2 blinks).  It is probably worthwhile to try all of the AUX buttons first.  There's no point in copying buttons which don't send a signal.

You may also need to disable volume punch through (993) and/or channel lock (973), if you haven't done so already.

I registered just to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! I swapped my DVR out today at a Comcast office and the remote would not work w/the new DVR even though it was the same model. Through reading here I got every button I care about now working except the live button and 15 second rewind. Can anyone tell me the codes to make these buttons work with the Scientific Atlana DVR?

Thanks!!

Live is probably 00216, and Instant Replay is 00245

Worked like a charm!

You rock! I think I talked to like 5 comcast reps in various departments and tiers today and one had the process to unlock setup, but none of them believed me when I said the remote just needed to be forced to pair w/the DVR. They had scheduled a tech to come to my house in like 5 days for a non-working remote. As an IT person, I was a little sad. LOL

Thanks again!

That worked brilliantly. Thank you. One thing that was interesting is that I could bind the "windows" button to the "On demand" key while on "TV", but then I couldn't copy this over to the cable. Not really a big deal though, this will save me the purchase of a new changer.

After no success with Comcast for what seemed like a call that would never end. I have Comcast set top box DCT6200/2005 that my remote no longer communicates with. Tried several options found here on this site (still much more helpful than the Comcast call), however I still have no success. I do believe I've found the codes to my remote. I have a red button remote - code = 01187. I also found an old grey button remote - code = 0476. However neither work with the set top box. I seem to get the correct blinks that the codes work. But even after following instructions to clear out old codes, resetting, etch. Still no success. My next option is to swap out remote at a local Comcast office. Also tried unplugging box for a few minutes but still no success. Any last suggestions?

The DCT6200 uses setup code cable 1376 or 01376.  These are the GI Cable IR protocol.  Setup code 0476 will send the same IR signals on most buttons, but 1376 is better.

If both remotes respond with two blinks when you assign this setup code, and also neither controls the set top box, the problem probably lies in the set top box.
One other possibility is a strong interfering source of IR, like a plasma TV, or some other hot surface in the room.

I think you are right that it is the box. 01376 did give me two blinks but still no control of the box.. Also I can still work my TV and DVR with the remote, just not the set top box. I don't think I've introduced anything else into the environment and the remote has worked fine for almost two years. Comcast last advised me to bring in the remote and exchange it. But it sounds like that wouldn't solve the problem either if it is indeed the box
