Hi I just need a little advice
I need a remote for my mythtv box and I'm not sure which learning remote is best for me. I had been using the little grey hauppage remote that came with my PVR-150, but it and the IR blaster suddenly stopped working. Not a big deal since I never really like the thing anyway. But now I need to replace it.
I would like to go the route of buying a wireless keyboard and then mapping the desired keys to a learning remote. I want a reasonably cheap solution, ie under $50 for the total package (keyboard and remote). In addition to the mythbox, I have just few other components such as a TV, DVD, VCR, and CD player that NEED to be controlled by the remote. I would guess that most of these components will have codes.

So here are my questions:
Has anyone here ever mapped key strokes with a learning remote?
Will the URC8820 be able to do this?
Is there a specific keyboard I should buy to do this, or does it just have to be IR?
I noticed in the manual that the "record" button should not be used for learning...does this really matter since, there is a high likelyhood I'll want that button used?

Thanks!

I have taught commands from a msntv 2 keyboard to the 8820, with no troubles. I use the msntv 2 keyboard with msntv 2 console only.

The 8820 can only learn about 75 to 100 commands for the whole remote. And yes you can teach to the Rec key.
