most remotes don't learn. many of the cheap ones are set up by entering a code that you find in the code list in the book. Some of the more expensive ones you can set up through a PC
See if you can find a One for All that is upgradable. It's normally touted on the package. The newest remotes will have more of the codes already in the remote.
If you are running more than the TV, a higher end remote will let you run everything and make it easier to run.
I don't recommend buying a factory remote because of the cost is usually than buying an aftermarket remote with more capability.
You could buy a better learning remote from a AV store and test it at the store and learn the codes from a newer panasonic on the floor.
At least the dog didn't eat the computer controlled remote that my customer bought...twice!
You could get a nice MX-350 by Universal Remote Control. They aren't as cheap as One For All, but they are a LOT more powerful and have learning capabilities.
Before you buy a universal / learning remote, check eBay to see if someone is selling a remote identical (but unchewed!) to your original. Sometimes you can find them for a very reasonable price on eBay (especially if you can be patient).
Even if you end up eventually buying a multiple device remote, having a WORKING original can be useful. You may need it in the future to access some infrequently used feature, or to reprogram the learning remote, or simply to remind yourself of what features exist on your original remote (some button you may not use right now may come in quite handy in 6 months!).
