I currently own a Harmony 1000, which has developed the annoying problem of frequently continually transmitting a command after the "button" is pushed with maddening results. And, of course, since I upgraded my OS, it no longer will "phone home". I'm sure I could probably fix that issue, but I think it's time to move on. I previously owned a Pronto DS1000. What I liked about both of them was the large touch screen and the flexibility of being able to program custom soft buttons, but that no longer seems to be the trend. What I really didn't like about the Harmony was having to establish internet connectivity in order to change anything. The Harmony's connectivity was always pretty glitchy even at the best of times, and I'd rather go back to the Pronto's way of doing things where you download the programming software and work locally, so that's definitely a requirement for my next universal. I only need to control six IR devices, and don't need the RF feature. It would be nice if I could control X10 devices, requiring the remote to be able to generate sequences, but it's not a deal killer if I can't have that feature. Any suggestions?

As an addendum, I have a Mac, so Philips, who doesn't seem capable of producing a compatible Application for Mac for their remotes is unfortunately out of the running.

As mentioned in a number of threads, the options for the DIY enthusiast are now very limited as the industry has geared itself more towards the professional installer.

Presently the choice is one of getting a newer Logitech Harmony or one of the smartphone/tab apps. However, mdavej believes there maybe a dealer or two prepared to supply the software for the professional URC models (though note Daniel's post here) and buzz makes mention of fringe controllers, but doesn't offer any makes or models.
