My old Comcast DVR box finally took a dive, so I exchanged it for a new RNG200 and remote. New box worked, but the remote control would only control it if I was in close proximity to the box....... literally within 3 or 4 feet! I thought it might be a problem with the remote, so I tried another from my bedroom...... same thing. I returned the box and remote and got a new one. Again, same result. Very frustrating!
The box has an indicator light which comes on whenever a button is pushed on the remote. As long as I am within 3 or 4 feet, I see the indicator light when a button is pushed. When I slowly step back and go out of that range, nothing!
I have a direct line of sight to the cable box, and there are no obstructions whatsoever..... Less than 12 feet from my couch.
The remote given to me with the box is a silver one with the red OK/Select button. My second remote which produced the same result is the darker gray one, also with the red OK/Select button.
Has anyone experience a similar problem or have any suggestions? Thanks.

More than likely an issue with that model box. Could be something in the room flooding it with infrared. As a test, try with all lights off... and even the TV off.

Good suggestion, but even wit everything off and a completely dark room, same result!
