I recently turned my basement into a media room. I am using a epson projector, sony blue ray player/home theater, and cable box. I have hidden away the the cable box and BR player in a small closet. The problem is I have to open the door to get the remotes to work. So I bought a IR cable for both devices. However the sony player does not have the IR port in the back like the cable box does. I have run the IR cable out of the closet and can now control the cable box video. However I still have to open the door to adjust the volume from the receiver since the projector has no volume that i know ok. My question is, can I somehow control the audio thru the cable box? Or is there a device I can get to control the whole thing thru the wall of the closet, or by internet?

At minumum you need an IR system along these lines: [Link: xantech.com] That will take care of the door open issue. But, you are still using multiple remotes. I would say hire a pro if you want to get into better control system.
