I have just gotten into home theater etc. and have just got hooked up with DirecTv 3 days ago. I cant seem to get any one of the 3 remotes to control all of the components.

I had cable before the DTV hookup and I used the yamaha remote for everything successfully. I was using the yamaha mainly because it had all of the "mode" controls for the audio but it wont work on the direcTv recvr.

I dont care much for the DTV remote as it has this awkward "slider" at the top for different devices.

I like the Toshiba remote but cant seem to get it to control the satelite or the audio properly.

Any help or direction would be great.

I just saw a special on HGTV-fine living and have checked on line. They recommend Harmony remotes. You can plug them into your pc and download the codes for 100's of components directly from the internet to the remote.

I'm planning on getting one myself.

URC makes some of the most powerful remotes for the money. The Harmony remotes have programming constraints, which force you into the way they think you should use the remote, rather than how you want to use it. With the URC brand of remotes, you can program them however you'd like (or have it programmed for you) - they are more customizable. Many of my customers who had Harmoney remotes also complained that the buttons were too close together or too small for them.
