Trying to decide on which remote to get. Looking for something programable, easy button push or touch screen, nice color LCD would be good also rechargeable nice but the last 2 not a deal breaker.

1) I've tried the Harmony's & really like them, but the buttons are too hard to push while on a table. Shame too...the 720 I'm trying is a sweet unit otherwise. Trying to stay < $300.

2) Other "discussions" have steered me to the URC MX-900 as being rock solid on a table & very tweakable. The MX-950 is just too pricey.

3) A re-furbished Pronto TSU7000 looks to fit the bill, but seems many say the customer service, glitchy software, 6 months for factory repair, etc.... are not worth the hassle.

I'm tired of searching & researching. Ready to buy, but this new one has to stay with me a few years.

Hmm, just throwing out a few ideas, the URC TX-1000 does seem to fit the bill of a "tabletop remote". The Sony RM-A* series also work well on a table.

I was/am looking at the URC TX-1000, but at 6.6"x5.4"x1.5" & 2lbs. not sure I want something that big. Wish it had a better screen like Harmony & Pronto. I don't know how Harmony can make such a nice screen, features, tilt-on & charger for a good price & so much cheaper than other manufacturers. I really like the Favorite channel color logo's you can add to them.

If the URC TX-1000 or MX-900 had a better color LCD the choice would be much easier.

Is Pronto as bad as many clai?

Pronto has had a plethora of issues over he years. If I can say anything they've been consistent about, it's making installers complain about them. URC has it's issues now and then, but the manufacturer is typically highly responsive and back by strong support, both within URC and from Authorized Dealers.

Honestly, the MX-900 is a great remote and many of my customers absolutely love it. The TX-1000 looks incredible, but is a little large. Due to the fact that it's larger, it should not tip over if being used on a table top. I really think you would like either of them.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to call for a free consultation.

Thank you,
Damon DG

Damon, I disagree. I have not dealt with Prontos professionally in over a year ( job change) But before that one of my tasks was responsability for a network of videoconference rooms, and only had an issue with one of them that fell to the floor(not that it was the only accident, but the only time I needed to send a replacement). And I managed to fix it myself. I never had a plethora of issues, actually never really had any issues. I think most dealers dropped it because it was not protected from internet sales.

PS I know you used to work for URC, and I don't see anything but URC remotes on your site. Did you ever deal in Prontos and are you talking from experience?

The size of the Pronto appears to be just right.

The new Harmony 1000 looks pretty interesting. Might be a little bigger than I would like. I know it doesn't compare to the Pronto or URC for programmability, but has loads of other features at a MUCH better price. Might have to wait & check it out!

The Harmony 1000 is a lot smaller than it looks. And very very thin (something I've been bugging manufacturers about for a while now - someone listened! :-)
