I have this:

[Link: gyration.com]

I like it a great deal and it does a great job of controlling my setup: desktop PC + TV + 5.1 Receiver + Cable Box.

Unfortunately, it was accidently dropped and the ultra-sensitive gyroscope busted. Gyration will replace it for me (after I send the original back to them, shipping on me) however, I really want to find a more sturdy alternative.

I only had the thing for 2 months and I have no doubt it will get dropped again.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am basically looking for an IR universal learning remote with the ability to control media center and mouse cursor movement. Doing this with RF is nice, but not absolutely essential, an IR solution will work. Thank you!

Nobody else, AFIK, makes a motion remote like Gyration. Try adding a teather, like the ones on digi-cameras and Wii controllers.

Thank you for the prompt reply. It's unfortunate to hear that Gyration is unique though. I am kind of disappointed for a few reasons. One, they don't seem to have an extensive library of codes, my receiver wasn't in there (Yamaha RX-V365). Two, because of that, I had to burn up the memory in it to get it learn the receiver codes. That didn't leave much room for anything else (like my new air conditioner that just came today).

That said, is there an alternative solution that isn’t a "motion remote?" I'll settle for a trackball or something like that (perhaps even just arrow keys for the mouse) as long as it does IR learning and controls Media Center.

Thank you!

Not really, the Gyration stuff is geared towards computers with a second thought of doing A/V gear, while the main remote companies are geared towards A/V gear with a second thought of doing computers. There is one company that is an exception, Logitech. Look at this, see if it will work for you. I've played with it and thought it was pretty cool, just not for my mix of products.

I've seen the diNovo Mini. It does not appear to control anything other than the computer. Is this not the case? Is it also a programmable IR remote?

I guess I am willing to lower my requirments if I have to. I'll give up mouse control.

That said, this is what I need to control:

PC, Media Center
Sharp SDTV
Yamaha RX-V365 Receiver
Frigidaire Air Conditioner
Comcast Cable Box
Future IR Fan/Light control.

I am almost certain because of the A/C and Fan/Light controls I will need a learning remote.

I saw these, some of them seem to do all that, but they are expensive. Any other ideas?

Stay away from those, far away. Look into URC's remotes. www.universalremote.com

If you have an IR receiver with your media center, then all of them would, if not, then none of them, not easily at least.

to control Ligth, Video ,Audio and many more .

I personally think this tool is great and it has built in ir,rs232 and TCPIP Data base codes.

Wow, you bring up a 3 year old thread to reccomnd a product that doesn't even fit with what the OP wanted? And to top it off, my 7yo daughter can write better than you.

Spam FAIL.
