X10 Wall Dimmer Switch doesn't work???

Hi,

I just got the x10 kit yesterday, everything works except the wall dimmer switch. I can't even turn on the ceiling fixture (2 x 40W normal light bulbs). I first switched on the dimmer, then I tried to press it up and down, nothing happened. Later on I tried to press it rapidly and making sure I didn't dim the light, but again with no luck.

What do you think the problem is coming from? The fixture itself (wrong type because I have 2x40W)? Defective switch?

Thanks very much.

Simon

In additional to my last message, the model # of the dimmer switch is WS12A.

Having 2 40w bulbs will not cause any problem. On some X-10 switches there is a slider switch on the bottom of the switch. This switch, if in the off position, will cause the switch to not work. Try the slider switch in both directions. If yours doesn’t have a switch or it still doesn’t work, you more than likely have a bad switch. Are you sure it is installed correctly?

2x40w? Are they 40 watt flourescents? (most) flourescents don't dim.

I triple checked the slider switch, and it was in the ON position. I'm using 2x40W incandescent bulbs.

Thanks

Hi guys,

Mystery solved, it was just a bad switch. Whew, I thought I had a bigger problem.
