I hope I don't get laughed off for posting this, but I sure could use some help. I recently purchased a led lighting kit with remote from LightEnhancingDesigns in Florida. After installing the four led bars to the back of my LCD (for ambient lighting), i noticed that my Harmony one volume up/down buttons were sending a signal to the led backlights. This is also happening directly from my Pioneer Elite remote.
I hope some of the pro's here might be able to give me some ideas on how to fix this or maybe even a different way of getting my backlighting.

If multiple device remotes are controlling it, then it is either using the exact same codes as whatever other device you have (which shouldn't happen if it was designed properly), or it has a poor quality IR reception system incapable of rejecting commands that aren't specifically intended for it (ie. it sees any sort of pulse that "looks about right" and responds).

There really isn't a whole lot you can do about this - the fault lies with the lighting system.

If you must have remote control over it, the only workable solution is to get an RF universal remote with an RF basestation with addressable IR outputs, and then you can run an emitter from the basestation to the lighting system's IR receiver and ensure that it only ever receives its own signals. The problem with this is RF remotes with addressable outputs start at around $400-500.

I have been able to clean up the signal a little bit by changing the delays on my Harmony remote, but the backlight still changes when i hit many keys associated with the receiver. Yeah, the fault definitely lies with the lighting system... But going to RF for one item is not going to be my solution. Thank you for your input though. Anyone else's suggestions will also be appreciated.

If you had a Pronto remote you could experiment with slight changes to the codes frequency/timing to see if there's anything that would allow one device to work while excluding the other, but with the Harmony there's not a whole lot else you can do in the tweaking department.

The only real way to stop it from responding to codes that it shouldn't be responding to, is to prevent it from receiving those codes in the first place.

You could try to block its IR receiver as much as possible so that it can only barely receive a command when the remote is aimed directly at it...

Thought about a pronto, might upgrade in a few more years. For now i'll live with it. Best i could do was put controls on the touchcsreen part of the harmony, that allow me to bypass it right when it happens.
I customized my Xbox V1, soldering in a programmable IR receiver, just thought that if i could do that, maybe i could somehow rebuild the LED kit's receiver. I might look into the board and see if i can disable some of the traces for some of the commands that i don't need.
