I would like to know if anyone has controlled an HAI automation system through RS-232 and if so, where can I find the commands? I have an OmniIIe system with thermostat, UPB lighting, temp sensors, etc etc, and I would like some form of control through my RTI remote which can do 1 way RS-232 from its processor(RP6). I see that the board has three serial ports and they can be assigned to OmniLink, Prolink, UPB, RadioRA, CetraLite, Vizia RF Z-Wave, and HAI Hifi. I am looking only to send commands to the HAI system to do some basic operations on it.

I don't know the RTI RP6 and how you write code in it but the Omni will accept ascii "messages". You need to set the messages up in the Omni and then when they are recieved you can execute commands. In other words, when _______ received, dim ______. I use an ADI Ocelot to do it.

Set up an Omni serial port in PROLINK mode. Then define some MESSAGES in the omni, such as "kit light on" for kitchen light on (I think each omni message is limited to 15 characters). Program your RTI system to send "kit light on" out the port connected to the omni when a button is pressed on the remote. Program the omni to turn on the kitchen light when that message is received.

I'm not sure if the omni wants a terminator or not, such as a carriage return. But, this should be easy to determine.

Hello, I've been able to make it work but it is quite complicated. You first need to login the system. After 3 minutes of inactivity, the panal will terminate the session so you need to relogin to regain access of the panel.

I've been able to control the system using a Xantech IRS232 (which convert any IR codes into rs-232 strings). The IRS232 will give you 36 possibiliy of control.

Another cheap way to do it is with the X10 IR543 device which converts IR to X10 protocol. You can then program the alarm panel to do an action when it receives a specific X10 code. That unit give you 32 control possibilities.

If you still want to use the RS232, you can either do it the hard way (the way I did it) or to use like other just told on this thread to use the PRO LINK protocol. With this protocol, it is also pretty simple to control the alarm by using messages. When it receives a specific message, do an action. The control possibilities varies on what model of alarm panel you have (LT, IIe, or PRO).

I can post here the basics of the OMNI LINK protocol but it is really complicated. But that way, you get no limit of programming your alarm panel. The strings also needs to be CRC16 checked (which I do not know how to calculate without having a small dos program to check the CRC and build the Omni-Link string afterall)

Good luck !

Old thread but pertinent. Using URC MCS-400. I can sent triggers, ie HAI1, HAI2, etc.

I can set up triggers in HAI. ie, when HAI1 is received, turn off alarm, etc. This is a correct way to do it right? Or do I HAVE to set up messages? I dont know how to send messages via URC only triggers.

Tried both ways, of course messages didnt work as I couldnt send messages from URC to Omnipro. Cant get triggers to work either. I see URC accept the commands. and I see the serial port on the OP barely blink like its accepting it, but nothing happens.

using HAI #21A05-2 going to an MSC serial/3.5mm connector that comes with the starter kit.

Set HAI to omnilink, also tried prolink. nothing seems to work. I do see in PC access under Setup/Expansion/Serial where I put on the port, baud rate, function, it shows SERIAL ADDRESS in a drop down box above the menu. have NO idea what this is. What is it? Related to my issue of no communication?

I know I need to hyper terminal into the HAI OP directly to make sure my triggers are workig but I dont have an RS2332 program on this Vista laptop to test.

Anything stand out as way wrong here?

THANKS!

Are you an HAI dealer? The protocol is available on the dealer site.

I know you posted this in 2007 but it might still be usable for you or others looking for answers.

I've posted the solution using pro-link message commands that might suit what you are trying to do in using simple TWO way solution here: [Link: remotecentral.com]

I have also added new information on the same thread on an alternative way to do this without using messages. You can see this here: [Link: remotecentral.com]

Hope this help.

Diggin up this old topic (again), sorry for that.

I use Pro-Link and this works perfect to control the OmniPro II. for the sake of science I`m trying to understand the RS232 and Network protocol for 3rd party control without using messages. Has anyone tried this? If yes, how should the RS232 command look like when I want to control Light 1 (address one set to "Extended") with lets say URC Total Control or CCP.
