Supposing one wanted to start with light
control in one room using Pronto, the minimum
would be IR543 (4040), lamp modules and Pronto
with correct IR codes, correct? I've been looking
at 'Smarthome' and they have the 543 for about
$30USD and package deals on 6 IBM or Magnavox
lamp modules for another $30USD, or what about
that IBM starter kit with expansion pack, i'd
still need a 543, any thoughts? Am i handcuffing
myself by getting 543 and a few lamp modules,
dunno how much i need computer interface and
software, am i missing something? I noticed the
Home director with expansion is about $60USD from
'Smarthome' plus i guess another $30 for 543.
Also, where are Canadians buying this stuff
online US or is there a good Canadian online
place? Duty free form US or what?

Thx for any info..

Andy.

Andy,

I found a very good price ($20.39 + $4.95S&H) on the IR543 X10 controller. Here is the info and link:

Worthington Distribution
Order Line: 1-800-282-8864

For the lamp and appliance modules, I found that [Link: x10.com] sells x10 in Canada. They also list retailers that may have better prices.

x10.com also has many kits with good prices. I don't know if they charge for shipping in Canada.

Good Luck,
Mr. Wizard

Andy,

I buy x10 stuff from X10 Canada. The main warehouse is located in Mississauga, Ontario. They have a different price list for Canadian products and you should call them to find out the exact price. Shipping is also free.

I found that the retailers are actually more expensive than dealing with X10 Canada directly. You can always ask for more stuff if you order more.

Simon
