Hi everyone,

If I understand correctly, theis X-10 equipment lets you turn your lights on and off using an IR remote like the Pronto that I have at home.

Does this also work with 220V ? If yes, what components should I get ? I need to operate 3 power outlets that each have a ceiling lamp attached.

Thanks so much
Marc

This have been posted on several recent threads, but here it is again:

Here's a couple X-10 related UK sites that might help you:

http://www.redoak.co.uk/
http://www.hometech.co.uk/
http://www.laser.com/
http://www.ukha.demon.co.uk/

First of all, the Pronto transmits IR. The X-10 transmits/receives RF. You would have to buy the IR543 -- which converts IR signals to RF signals -- in order to control X-10 modules with your Pronto. It is possible though, several regulars of this message board use the Pronto for this.

Secondly, when you speak of power outlets, do you mean wall switches or receptacles (e.g. plug-ins)?

Typical wall switches aren't recommended for ceiling fans, and they may not work anyways if you try. I did once -- it would turn off, but not on.

They do make lower voltage(?) wall switches for ceiling fans with 16 "dimming" levels to control the speed of the fan. I have not tried it myself, so I don't know which fans work, or if it works at all. I saw this switch in a HomeControls catalog (www.homecontrols.com). I did not see this item on their website. Please note that it is for 110V. I don't know if they make 220V versions.

Good Luck,
Roland

Oh doofus me... I thought I read ceiling fans, when you said ceiling lamp.

You can disregard everything after the word "Secondly".

HI Roland,

Thanks alot for your help. I am still not sure if this stuff will work in Switzerland. I will have a look at the UK sites.
