Our house has, I'm very sad to say, aluminum wiring. Is this an issue with X10.

Forget the X-10/aluminum issue. Aluminum is an issue all by itself. Get out of that house, QUICK!

I suggest trying. Go to Egghead.com and bid on an IBM home (director) automation starter kit. I've gotten several (to use as gifts) for between $7 and $13. Plug it in and see if it works.

If you are going to keep the aluminum wiring get more fire insurance.
