Now that I have answered so many questions, I need some help of my own...

I got a hawkeye and an RF transciever module from X10. I have them work together properly except for two things.

I don't want the hawkeye to do anything regarding, light versus dark ONLY motion. I tried opening up the Hawkeye and covering the light sensor but somehow it was still sensing.

Can I cut this sensor out or do I have to short the two leads together? Basically, how can I stop it from sending signals to the n+1 unit code?

Also on the rf transciever. It seems to be hard set to respond to unit code 1. Unfortunately what I really want programmed to code 1 is a lamp dimmer module. Is there any way to make this transciever stop responding to unit code 1 ons/offs?

Never mind on the transciever, I found out it only responds to RF code 1 commands. I hardly ever issue a code 1 command using RF, that makes this ALMOST a moot point. Still kinda annoying though.

Still have the Hawkeye problem..

I just got a Hawkeye today too, and it came with intructions. Perhaps you have a different model than I do. Mine is set (by default) to transmit when it senses motion regardless of the light sensor. It can be set to only work when the light sensor thinks it is dark. However, if you DON'T want the light sensor to also send a code, then you'll have to disable it or blind it. Black electrical tape, perhaps two layers, on the face and wrapped around the sides of the light sensor chip should keep it in Dark mode. It won't emit another code unless it senses light again. You might also try a peice of tape on the BACK side of the circuit board if it is the least translucent. Mine can also be set to use different house and unit codes, and I read a suggestion to set the unit code to 16. There is no 17 code so the light sensor is disabled. The receiver is stuck at code 1. All the RF receivers I have are either code 1 or can be set to code 9. Therefore I don't have anything using code one. My hawkeye was simply set for a higher code.

Hey Guys,
The Hawkeye acts like two separate pieces, a light sensor and a motion sensor. The light sensor has no effect on whether the motion sensor works and vice versa. Next, if you set the Hawkeye to 16, the light code will rap around and be sent on 1. (Maybe the newer ones are different, check me on this one). Also, the Hawkeye can be programmed to send any number and letter code to a RF transceiver. It will control the switched output only on either 1 or 9 (the pro version has a switch to set 1 or 9). You can disable the Hawkeye’s light sensor by simply cutting one leg of it. It is the ¼” round brown thing in the middle with the squiggle on the top.

Chris,

"The Hawkeye acts like two separate pieces, a light sensor and a motion sensor. The light sensor has no effect on whether the motion sensor works and vice versa"

this is not true. If set to do so, the light sensor determines whether or not the motion sensor will sense motion. If this is active, the motion sensor will ONLY detect motion when no light is detected.

Here are a couple of sites with info on disabling the dusk/dawn feature.

My bad, I was thinking of the outdoor motion sensor, not the MS13A (Hawkeye)indoor sensor. Thanks for the correction Brian.

Instead of covering the light senser with tape, I just cut the sucker off -- if you short the wires, I think the unit would 'think' it is dark all the time.

Cheers, Jim
