Bottom line is... you can’t! At least NOT from the original remote. Chances are pretty good it’s already been done for you! Do a search for your make and model in the discrete code hunter section.

The source IR command is a single IR code that toggles sources. The code never changes. You can learn it in multiple times and all it will do is toggle sources. Any learning device you use will do the same thing. The TV manufacturer doesn't always provide multiple input buttons, but they may provide it in some form of IR protocol.

For example, Sony, Samsung, LG - they all are the same. All remotes have a single "Source" button. Learning that button, and it will simply toggle the sources, just like the factory remote. However, these companies also provide separate IR codes via the protocol which doesn't need to be learned in but manually entered in pronto form into the IR library manager.

You should always stick with models that have discrete Power AND Input codes. I would contact that TV manufacturer and see if they have the commands in another format, or even make provisions for discrete input commands.

Hi Rick, I replied to your PM, I also did a quick search on the TV and it seems its a vey basic 13" TV at best, with pricing in the sub $150.00 range its very unlikely to have discrete codes.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

Sir thank you so much for your feedback. Actually, this TV is the client requirement so we need to use this at any cost along with 3 or 4 sources & RTI should be used. Kindly provide me some solution regarding how to use discrete source codes for this TV. Kindly help me, Sir, Already you supported me a lot & I am really thankful to you because you always help me & get me out of complications.

When Televisions don't have discrete codes (and you need them) you have the following choices:

- Buy an HDMI switcher so you can switch that instead of the TV. Obviously, purchase one with discrete codes from a leading manufacturer.

- Use a workaround, which will be crude, but it will work. Send a macro with a channel up command which will always change the input to "TV", followed by as many input commands you need to get to the HDMI input you desire.

rick.fronda11,

First, find a sequence of buttons (using the factory remote) that will always go to the source that you want.

Each TV is a little different in this respect. Sometimes a "Channel Up" or "Channel Zero" or any number will force the TV to attempt to use the antenna. After you issue this antenna command, then you can use the "Input" or "Source" button to step through the TV inputs because the "Input" button will always step through the inputs in the same 1-2-3 order. Without first giving the antenna command, you cannot guarantee what an "Input" command will select.

For example, the sequence for selecting HDMI2 might be:

"Channel Up"
"Input"
"Input"

For selecting HDMI3, the following might work.

"Channel Up"
"Input"
"Input"
"Input"

Try various combinations using the factory remote until you can always select the correct HDMI input.

Now, you can build your macros using what you learned above.

Note that you may need to insert some delays between commands. If this is the case your macro might become:

"Channel Up"
"Delay"
"Input"
"Delay"
"Input"
"Delay"
"Input"

Each TV is different. You might need some or none of the delays.

Finally, you may need to wait a few seconds after turning the set ON before you can issue any input commands. Some TV's start up very slowly and will require waiting more than 10 seconds after a Power ON command before any other TV commands will be accepted.

Edit:

You may find that "Input" followed by a digit will select a specific source.

In this case the macro for HDMI1 might be:

"Input"
"1"

Also, in your experimentation be sure to try inserting "Enter" or "OK". The magic bullet could be:

"Input"
"1"
"OK"
