Morning all,
I am very green to control systems and my job has "requested" I learn so I can be the onsite person as our rep is just not very reliable on getting back to us when we need help.

One of the hot issues we are trying to figure out is why our CEO is unable to use his desktop software to control what comes up on his TV. What I have been able to figure out is that the XP8 that we have has been programmed with specific IP to be allowed to access the it. My question is how and where to i do go to change this so our CEO can use his software.

Does anyone know where I can find some documentation/video on how to work with this hardware also so I can get up and running on this as well.

Thanks for your time

It sounds like you are trying to create a Virtual Panel, which allows you to use a computer (or a touch screen Windows tablet, such as a Surface) as your controller. Every newer RTI processor comes with a free license for this.

You have to create a project as a virtual panel, set your resolution you want to create the project in, then populate it with graphics etc..

You can find your processor on the network via DHCP, then change the IP to a static address afterward in properties.

Are you an end user?
If so who did the install of the RTI controller and why are they not contacted for support?

mrfreeze,
Before we can ask for support we have to understand if there is an issue in our network or if it an issue someplace else. We are not going to pull someone in for support if it something we can fix in our own house simply by rerouting a cable or a VLAN or replacing a light bulb. I have no intentions of poking my head into a XP-8 and trying to play with macro's :)

I not looking to replace our RTI rep, but if we have an issue during a board meeting or other event I like to be able to fix the issue if possible and not wait 4 days or more for our support to get on site. Plus when we do contact him I will understand exactly what needs to be replaced making both his and my life easier.

I am not sure about anyone else but Executives like results not excuses :)

The Virtual Panel should be on the same Local Area Network as the control processor.

There are tools to finds what is on the network and their IP address etc. and can also be found through the menu on the XP-8 Processor and obviously you know how to see your computers IP address.

I would ensure the above first and then you can work from there.
Is the Virtual Panel not connecting a regular occurrence ?

It also sounds like you need a better support person :)

Sub in another RTI dealer in your area to help you get things going. I agree with your mantra, but executives are not going to like you poking around with limited knowledge at their time and expense.
