OK guys, here comes my little xmas treat. It will allow you to control any RTi system with any browser. This removes the absurd necessity to buy a license for each and everyone of the dozen smartphones, iPads, iPhones, laptops, androids, etc. present in any average household – thereby restoring some sanity to the process of switching on the TV and so on.

The files needed on the web server are:
  • Index.html
  • Film.css
  • SendUDP.php
  • jquery-1.7.1.js
The PHP sends a UDP string to the RTi server (in this case with IP address 10.10.10.61 and port 5002, but it can be adjusted to any appropriate value). Then the RTi just needs to pick up the UDP string and trigger a macro.

I have tested the script on a windows-based web server (IIS), and on an Arch Linux server (Nginx + php-fpm). It works nicely on either platform.

And here is the link to all files, nicely arranged in the appropriate subdirectory tree:

Feel free to use, modify, and distribute as you see fit. I would be pleased if this is found to be useful by anybody, and maybe somebody feels like improving on it.

Timmys, this needs a computer somewhere in the LAN which acts as a webserver.  It does not need to be a bells+whistles thing, and it does not need to run 24/7. Any win8.1 or win7 PC will do. The simplest setup (for people who never did this) can be found here.

It's basically impossible to get things wrong! If you want to control things from outside the LAN, it gets more involved because of security etc - but that is not advisable for a first go.

Use the integration designer to add a two-way driver, and to specify a port of your liking for listening to UDP strings.

With a text editor, edit the file "sendUDP.php" to match the IP address and port of your RTI control box. Edit "index.php" to match the commands which you want to execute via smartphone etc.

Once your IIS server is up-and-running, extract my files into the top www directory (which is typically "C:\inetpub" or something similar).

Let me know if/how well that works.
