note if you want to select discs by slot number, you have to use RS232: there are some neat integration programs that connect to the serial port (such as My Movies 3.xx) serial port requires a null adapter: turn serial port on in menu link to RS232 codes: [Link: avsforum.com]

What are the additional control differences between the (BDP-CX7000ES) RS-232 and (BDP-CX960) IR control?
I have a client that is buying the BDP-CX960, I plan on taking it apart to embed the IR emitter. If I will be missing many control features I'd like to warn him before the project begins.

I did a 7000 about a month ago and used the Control-S input on the back, Does the 960 have a control-s on the back?? if so it would save you opening it up for the emitter
I have the 7000 file in all 3 code sets in a .cml file as well

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far. |

There's not an IR input on the BDP-CX960. BDP-CX7000ES  BDP-CX960  If you compare the two models at sonystyle.com only the BDP-CX7000ES includes "Hi-Quality A/V Parts."

Bummer, I hadn't seen the 960 yet, Wow what a difference in the connections, I guess you get half the stuff for 1/3rd the price

another difference is the 7000ES can potentially be controlled over ethernet, although I have not seen any programs for it yet: there was a recent firmware update that supposedly allows for this

I recently went through a BUNCH of their stuff and was trying to track down all the differences. When you compare the ES stuff to the non-ES stuff there is a check box under "Build Quality" that is unchecked for the non-ES stuff. Q: What's the difference between the $1500 blu-ray player and the $300 one? A: The $300 one has no Build Quality. Sorry. lol
