Ok, I admit, I REALLY want one. But will I fork over $650? Not likely, Pronto really hit the limit on pricing for remotes of this nature. I can't even imagine paying that for a color pronto - yes I know different beast and all.

Please everyone, share your opinions.

Glad to see someone else said it first. I'm in the market and would have bought a Pronto but I'm waiting for the reboot to get sorted out. This remote looks like a hybrid of hard buttons and a touch screen. Pronto looks like it's a lot more flexible in the touchscreen department. The new Sony has more hard buttons than Pronto and the price is real attractive. The amount of memory might also be a concern, 128K (I think) will that be enough to do everything including bit mapped buttons? I'll wait for the reviews, but for $650+ it better have A LOT more to offer than the Pronto and the Sony. At this price most of the accesories should be included.

It does come with the charger and 2 battery packs ... I guess we'll have to see how it's discounted and how good the software is. I'm concerned about the small size of the screen, but if it's very fast switching pages it could very well be a nifty alternative which could tempt me rather than wait for the color Pronto.

The hard cursor and keypad are very alluring. We need to find out how it handles switching devices and so on.

Is it worth it?

Depends on what you want. If you want a IR only system with a touch screen the Pronto is a better price.

But if you want RF control with a touch screen the RTI T2 is very reasonable. Competitors are Niles, Crestron, Lexicon 700 RF, and AMX. They are all software configurable and have RF with IR zones.

The Niles system is RF with hard buttons and costs $1000, dealer only configuration. The Lexicon 700 RF is about the same price with touch screen only. The Crestron and AMX are touchscreens for about $2000 to $3500 depending on options and are mostly dealer only configuration, some end users can make the adjustments.

You can buy the RTI T2 for about $1000 which gives you hard buttons, a touchscreen, RF control, and current sensing.

So, if you want a touchscreen for IR only, buy the Ponto.

If you want a touchscreen with RF, buy the Lexicon.

If you want RF with hard buttons, buy the Niles.

If you want both hard buttons and touchscreen, buy the RTI T2.

Sam,

I spoke w/ Mitch of RTI today.

This remote is one serious product and in a totally different class than the Pronto.

It also includes:

Option for an RS232 interface
Video sense
Conditional actions
Button can have multiple functions depending on length of time pushed
Flexible software (AMX, Creston, and Niles must be programmed by a Dealer)
IR encapsulation within RF
Ergonomic package (ever try to surf with an AMX or Lexicon?)

The functionaility (at least on paper) of this remote is not to be believed.

Now, if I could only find one to buy!!.

How do you select a source? My 1st impression is that source selection is from the display, do you have to scroll the display or is there an initial display with all the source buttons on it? I like the limited supervison features, but it requires the RF module. I don't see a proprietary way to supervise a TV as the power module is not an AC sensing (unless you use other equipment like a "TV sniffer" to obtain a voltage). Xantech's Gatekeeper would probably work very elegantly with this remote negating the need for the RF or sense modules. I could go on and on but I really no nothing about this remote.

Hello,
I find this remote very attractive because of the buttons the Pronto doesn't have.

But only 128 Ko , is it enough ?????
compared to the 1 Mo of the Pronto, I find it quite ridicoulous for the price announced ?

David,

Source selection happens from the touch pad. The touch pad allows you to place any buttons you want (including source), and yes there are multiple pages (12 to be exact). You could also program any of the hard buttons for source selection if you wanted.

Mike,

Take a look at some of the info in my previous post, this remote is in a totally different class of product than the Pronto.

I would like to clarify a few things.

You can have up to 12 frames (or screens) per page, with up to 64 pages on the system.

The T2 has 128K of non-volatile flash memory, so the program will never get lost.
Other remotes may have more memory, but they store their programs in a completely different manner. There is no way to compare remotes based on memory.

RTI currently has Video Sync Power Sensors that works with the RF receiver to sense when video equipment is on as well as a Voltage Power Sensor, with more in the future.

The RF receiver module is optional, you can use the T2 in IR mode for control of a basic system or at any time, you can add the RF receiver for a more sophisticated system. You can even do a combination of both IR and RF in the same system.

Thanks
Mitch @ RTI

I should have mentioned that I have the remote, and Steve is correct that it is one serious product. I bought it from etronics. Still waiting for the IRF-6 and video synch.

I have had it about a week. Other remotes that I have owned are the Crestron SmartTouch and Pronto.

The Pronto is a great IR only remote, but once you have had RF to IR operation it is hard to use an IR only remote (especially with macros). The Crestron STS is a great touchscreen remote, and it should be for the price. The one thing that I disliked about it was that it had no hard buttons.

The navigation buttons on the RTI T2 are great for surfing TV, DVD menus, and also for transport buttons.

I programmed the DVD page to have the navigation buttons do multiple commands. If you "press" the lft, rt, up, or down button it will move the cursor in a DVD menu. If you "press and hold" the lft or rt button the DVD will fast forward or rewind while playing; while the up or down will do slow motion, forward or back. The select button if "pressed" will send the DVD menu enter command or if "press and hold" it will send a play command. The options are unlimited.

When the remote is picked up it automatically turns on, and two rechargable batteries are nice.

My Main Menu screen has three selections; Video, Audio, and Options. The Video button takes you to the Video Select page where you select an icon for DVD, LD, RePlay, Cable, or VCR. The Audio button takes you to the Audio Select page where you can select the CD Changer Icon, MD, Tuner, or CD-R icons. With all of the equipment programmed, I have not ran out of memory. Remember I programmed the remote this way, you can do what ever you want. The touchscreen is not as large as the Pronto, but with my fingers I can easily select 12 different buttons on the screen.

If your looking for a new remote you need to check out the T2.
