It looks like you can put 2 different commands on a single button. The button test feature in the macro editor shows you can put 1 command on the button press and another command on the button release, it looks cool but what would you use this for?

Whatever you want! But the options are
1) Hold a button for x seconds rather than just press it 2) Double-click a button rather than just press it.

I'm thinking of trying out using double-clicks on the numeric keypad to switch devices. The only problem I see is that I think it will slow down the number entry, as it needs to wait whatever the interval for the double click is. I gues I could make it fairly short.

Here's an idea: Press down and hold to fast-forward your VCR, then when you let up, execute a macro to back the tape up seven seconds (timed rewind) and then play. This would make a nice commercial skip function that would automatically account for overshooting the end of the commercial break.

dbub, that is a really cool idea. TiVo has a feature like this and it is very handy when time shifting stuff.
