Daniel,

1. Your review states "remember that you must always go to the main menu to switch devices"

It would seem that the software would let you send an IR command and also set a page jump from a button. Example on my DSS page I could set the * button to execute the IR command on my surround processor to select cable TV and also to jump to the cable TV page.

It seems that the jump to page has to be set as an assign page to button, the page link within the macro does not seem to work for me (at least in the software preview).

2. In terms of the RF, I would assume that when you select RF the IRF-6 then converts to IR and send out via emitter?

Also, Can you have a button do RF and IR at the same time?

3. How would you suggest a power on sequence for an entire system (devices with and without discreete on/off and input select) commands?

4. Lastly, you didn't really give us a sense of your overall impression of the product and how you would rate it against other remotes

1. A page jump can be executed by a macro sequence.2.yes - no 3.you can use discrete codes, the video sensor, and the power sensor.4 read it a second time.

Wayne,

What does Daniel mean by "remember that you must always go to the main menu to switch devices"

Why (from within the preview mode) when I set a macro to jump to a page, it does not, I have to do an page assign.

"I give the RTI TheatreTouch T2 a big thumbs-up for users who require advanced control in a compact and cost effective package." A little elaboration here,

Is it the greatest remote ever built
Is it marginally better than the Pronto
How does it compare to the Home Theatre Master Series
Are the ergonomics better than any remote out there?

Geesh, give the guy a break :-)

I think it's very hard to quantify these things because everyone has different preferences as can be picked up from the various comments by people on such things as tactile hard buttons vs. artistic LCD buttons. And many factors can be different, like size of hands, etc.

You may have to digest what the review did mention, add your own perspective, study the pictures and use your imagination :-). Or maybe ask about more specific aspects. Just my 2 cents ...

One comment, I thought you could actually switch to another device by a page link command or macro, which wouldn't require going through the main menu page.

Gages:

1) It is possible to put "page" (or device jumps) anywhere you want, but since the LCD can only display 12 buttons at once it would be awkward to put them on every "page". So it's best to use the main menu -- which is always there -- as a starting point. That way you can also be assured that any input commands would be properly sent. The remote does not allow you to alias one button to another (ie all functions), so any complex input-switching macros would have to be duplicated for all places you would want to switch inputs. So it's probably best to keep those to a minimum.

2) Yes. RF means "use RF to transmit IR". There doesn't seem to be an option to have the remote transmit BOTH RF and IR at the same time, however you can selectively choose RF or IR for any button.

3) Devices with discrete codes are obviously easy. However if you have a device with no discrete codes, no way to ensure it's always in a particular state, AND you don't want to buy the RF station, there's nothing additional you can do with the T2 to ensure it's always in sync.

4) I generally do not give direct comparisons in reviews since it takes a long time to get an overall feeling for a remote. And since these PC-programmable ones can have so many operational updates via firmware. I leave that to the message forums, ie. here. There's too many important variables between the Pronto and T2 that would be dependant on what YOU want to do with the remote.

5) I noticed that page jump bug as well. It works fine on the remote, but not in preview mode.

Daniel,

As related to your point 4, understood, and well said. However, the T2 is a rather expensive device as remote controls go and some overall guidance as to whether to make the jump from the Pronto would be helpfull.

When I went to the Pronto (from the Marantz) it was pretty much a no brainer and low risk. Now it is a little more involved.

Lastly, it seems that the only major fault I found within the software is the ability to jump directly to a page within a device. Any others you consider significant?

Gages: Besides for the page jump, the only other thing I noticed was that a number of my receiver commands learned in pulse mode (which is strange since working ones were also learned at the same time). The software never crashed or did weird things when I was using it.

Does anyone have any experience with remotes and
managing large CD data bases and the mega CD changers?
I'm thinking of a remote that runs WinCE for excel
database or something. Does that exist? Help?

we have programed and sold many 500t and 700t for some time now. the software has gone thru some updates from time to time.Keep in mind that the programming community that supported those products was and is quite small. The software designers have been very receptive to field input. Daniel is right about the need for page jumps within a device as in the other remotes the screens were large and the new remote is divided up for space and economy reasons. The RS232 is nothing more that a mono pin connection on the output ports of the rf modual followed by a rs232 connection on the other end. Various manufactures have different pin out configurations however. Let me state for the record the only real difference between this new remote and crestron, amx, etc. in their non-internet config. is color and about 2-3,000.

RTI would like to clarify one thing.

Yes, you can have IR and RF commands on the same button. This in done in the Macro Editor by overriding the default output on an individual command. Example, if the default output is set to RF, you can force individual commands to output IR.

Thanks Mitch @ RTI

Well, you can have IR & RF on one button, but if you want to have the button do *both* (not sure why though) you'd need to double up those commands, yes?

I cannot think of any reason why someone would want to send the “same” command RF and IR, this feature is so that you can send one command RF and a separate command IR.

For instance, you are running the main theater RF and you want to control the lighting in the theater, but you can’t get any wire to the lighting controller, you would just force the command for the lighting controller to output via IR.
