For $1200 for everything included in this remote, wouldn't you consider the Niles Intellicontrol for around the same price? Does the Niles control have to be programmed by the dealer and why? The dealer would also charge for the programming. My theater is already finished and all my equipment is at the back of the room so RF is a must. I have to currently point my remote(s) backward toward my equipment.

The two units may be similar in price but that’s where it ends. With the Niles Intellicontrol, you have to buy the software and PC interface to program the unit separately and it is only available to Niles dealers.
I don’t think the Intellicontrol is as customizable as the Theatertouch looks, since the Niles unit has only hard buttons that you put a piece of paper under the clear cap on each button to label them. Real Custom.

Tom,

RF is almost never a MUST... A simple IR repeater solves the above problem. At the same time, reliable, RF transmission is REALLY nice ;-). If you are careful/inventive with the placement of the "reciever", something with the IR output of a Pronto will almost never "miss" a code. A common location for such a reciever is at the top of a TV, in a top corner or between the center channel and TV. Of course IR repeaters aren't free either.

Speaking of IR output strength, how is the relative IR output strenth of the RTI T2 as compared to say a Pronto?

Mark: I'd say IR output is very comparable. In my room the T2 can operate everything from the same wacky angles as the Pronto. Of course, your mileage may vary.

When I was looking at the niles, it was $1200 for the unit, but the 2-3 places I called each wanted aprox $1000 to do the programming. The other problem was that if I added any new equipment I could not add it myself which made me a bit nervous.
