I have a brand new Denon AVR-4311 Receiver and I am having issues with the audio cutting out via HDMI w/ time warner cable box. Audio will be fine for a while then will cut out and if I turn the amp off and then on again it comes back. Also audio wont work on stereo mode or direct mode, only multi ch stereo, dolby, dts neo 6 cinema, etc....Tried 4 different model cable boxes, replacing hdmi cables, using optical for audio and still cant figure it out. Called tech support and they had me check settings, reboot amp, reset microprocessor and could not figure it out. I also tried all the different setting for audio and hdmi on the cable box menu and did not make a difference. I think its and HDMI handshake issue?? Anybody have any ideas or had this or similar issue? Any help or advice would be greatly apprecieated. Thanks!

That's HDMI for you. Where did you buy the unit from? Did you try to take it back and exchange it? What did they say?
"You can't fix stupid."

Did you try disconecting the TV from the HDMI monitor connection of the AVR? I ask because EDID is transmitted from the panel and if it is incorrectly read by any device in the chain do to timing, voltage... you will loose sync.
How long is the monitor cable?
or
Are you using baluns? If so, have you reterminated the RJ-45's?
Have you confirmed firmware updates on all devices encluding the display?
Have you tried forcing the input mode on the AVR to HDMI for Audio input -VS- AUTO?
