I have a Philips Home Theater System Model HTS3440/37. The unit came with the home I just purchased. I am trying to get my Brighthouse Cable Company remote, Model number UR5U-BH8000 to control the Philips. As far as I can get when I enter the code 237, is the Philips will shut off like it is supposed to. The only problem is, it won't turn back on nor will it control anything other then the DVD when it is on.

I tried Philips and they sent me here.

I will appreciate any help.

Thanks
Grumpy

The problem lies in that all Philips products use what is called toggle bit IR. For every button on the remote there are 2 codes, not just one. For eg. the "On" button the 2 codes are On code A and On code B. When you press "On" to turn the tv on the tv sees that On code A has been sent. Then the next time the tv sees an on command it is expecting On code B. The remote "toggles" back and forth on it's own. The cable companies remote cannot learn or isn't compatible with toggle bit codes. You may have to buy an aftermarket universal remote (not cheap) that is compatible with toggle bit ir codes.

Your answer to IslandGrump a year ago is close to explaining my problem. I have a Brighthouse network Scientific Atlanta DVR with AT8550 remote and just purchased a Philips HTS3264D/37 home theater system. I successfully programmed the cable box remote to control my TV and the Cable box power, volume, mute, etc., but none of the codes listed by Brighthouse for Philips in any category of product seem to work wth this sound system.

Perhaps you could recommend a universal remote that will replace the one I have and will control the cable box, the TV, and the home theater sound system.

My wife has trouble dealing with two remote controls. I can do it, but it's a pain.

Many thanks.

Try a URC(Universal Remote) or Pronto. They can handle anything you will throw at them.

TV's and DVDs work just fine with them, its only the Pyilips Home Theater systems that have an issue?
