I have a customer that is going to put a plasma/lcd above his fireplace, but there is no place for equipment in the room. We are distributing the WHA from a closet that is about 60-75 feet away from the plasma location. This is the only option, any suggestions on cable. We typically will run Belden HDTV-mini RGB cable with CAT5 for infrared. Will this work, if not any suggestions. THX

A year ago I would have agreed with this, but I now think that is way too far for a mini cable. If you must use a mini cable to get out from behind the plasma, do the first six to ten feet with it, then use BNCs and switch to a full-on RG59 cable for the rest of the run.
That much mini cable will likely cost you detail in the picture. It might be really subtle, just not as good a picture as you hoped for...nothing obvious but something real.

Hi Madtay,
The cat5 for the IR will work just fine over that distance!

I ran the IXOS MiniRGB cable (Calle 6-core XS110CL) over 60 feet with absolutly no video loss. We had a plasma on one side of the room, cathedral ceilings with 15' to the peak on either side. It was the only room being remodeled. We ran the wire, never ran with any AC lines, and always crossed at a 90 degree angle. The HDTV Signal passed perfectly. From previous Xantech Training, the trainer said that IR can go up to 3000 feet, over that, they said to use RS485.

serial digital cable, RG-6, say from signature wire. I use nothing else even for short runs, custom terminate and bam, no loss. Termination along with source is everything. Many potential weak links in the chain. 75' plus and up, all my displays are remote from the equip. Key phrase....point of diminishing returns not present. Stranded wire works better over distance than solid core for IR, but your length should be no problem with Cat-5.
